The Artist
My name is Anazoila Contreras. I was born in California to two wonderful, happily married Hispanic parents. I currently live in Milwaukee, WI, and attend Ronald Reagan College Preparatory High School. Many people say I'm just a sweet, 17 year old girl that is incapable of harming anyone. That is true but I stand up for my loved ones. My family, friends, culture and everything I love are a big part of my life. I can say a big part in life for the fact that they’ve provided inspiration to my works of art. My family is more of a reserved type, interested in what the peers have to say about us and willing to take anything from them. With this said, I was influenced to receive and except any form of criticism and comments on my art work, that is only to become a better artist and grow stronger and a human being. My loved ones will support me and will help me get far in life.
Coming from an ordinary family I am surrounded by life's challenges but I manage to surpass them every time, with faith through my religion and good advice. Life has its ups and downs, but what can we do about it? We eventually clutch to it and learn from our mistakes and previous morals. I want to be and become someone in life that my younger brothers or anyone else can look up to, a role model. I set this goal to myself everyday hoping to be a role model, but the only way I can achieve this is through skill, when I become better at what I have already done and I prove that I am greater worthy of the attention and privilege.
Art has been a part of me since day one. I may not remember when I first experienced it, but I do know that Art is found everywhere, even in things that people may not consider Art. Since I was younger I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer, regularly sketching and keeping a portfolio of all my designs, but then I discovered something even better. I began to take classes at a modeling agency, and because of that, I began to take interest in Photography. My first camera was obtained during my middle school years, even though I didn't take photography classes; I discovered things on my own, through trial and error. Something I have discovered is that through the trial and error there are many maybe even thousands of ways of seeing an image. You can change these views through: saturation, contrast, light, etc… All of these features have helped me gain knowledge and grow with skill.
Although photography may be one of my main points of focus in Art right now, I still enjoy using other media. I have experienced numerous media this year in IB Art, under the guidance of my Art instructor, whom I admire so much. Junior year has been worth my discoveries and my talents for adapting to different media. Some works of Art I have worked on this year are: Crystal, Sacred Vessel, Holga, Mono-printing, Block printing, and so much more. I can say this was my first year really getting into the working with oil paints, and it first I did not enjoy it but I came to appreciate more the artists who use this media. I had a really hard time adapting to this form of paint, more on how to apply it and coming to find out that a brush with a stronger bristle was more proper. I can gladly say I learned from my mistakes and I’m on the mission/conquest to become a better artist and person as a whole.
